Haifa Wehbe’s very see-through dress, which she wore in her guest appearance on Star Academy, was so scandalous that even Western media could see all the way to Beirut through it!
The Lebanese superstarlet has been the talk of the town since her performance on the talent TV competition last week.
Haifa, however, claimed that it was due to unfortunate strong stage lighting that the entire world was able to take a sneak peek at her bare legs and bum. Clearly, this is a fashion crime of a different kind for many Arab viewers.
Now, Western media including the BBC and Daily Mail have reported on the outrageous incident.
The DM described the pop singer’s dress as “a figure-hugging long black dress with revealing sheer panels,” while dedicating an entire article to how the Arab world reacted to it.
There were certainly mixed reviews on Haifa’s little black number, with the majority of women in Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia disapproving of her choice of outfit, and accusing her of going a tad too far this time.
One Twitter user, Sawsan Abu Omar, wrote, “After Kim Kardahsian’s attempt to break the Internet, I find Haifa Wehbe’s see-through dress on Star Academy to be quite modest.”
Another social media user wrote a heartless comment, suggesting that “These types of Arab female celebrities need to meet the Islamic State.”
Meanwhile, Dana Khairallah, a Lebanese lifestyle blogger, told the BBC: “They think if women dress this way it would misrepresent our culture.
“I find that hypocritical. I see Arab girls dressing more provocatively in clubs but no one cares because there are no cameras.
“There’s also an element of social media meanness in what is happening that drives this bullying of celebrities.”
Controversial is Wehbe’s middle name; she is well-known for expressing herself in a seductive way through her music, fashion and lifestyle.
